Retribute update, itch.io, profile debugger
I've managed to work a few hours on #Retribute this evening, and here is a quick (non-technical) changelog!
# Application Footer
I've added a footer at the bottom of all the pages to ensure people can find their way to our forums/source code/issue tracker/chat.
Nothing big, but still useful ;)
# itch.io support
Retribute will now successfully parse links to itch.io profiles, which will probably please our fellow game devs
Thanks to @rjt for the idea and follow-up!
# Profile debugger
As a creator, it's common to want to know what information Retribute will extract from your profile.
https://app.retribute.me/debug now offers a simple form to check what links are extracted by Retribute and hopefully help you detect potential issues.
# Cache busting
Since Retribute keeps profile data in cache for a few hours, following a discussion with @emsenn and in preparation for pinned toot support, checks done via the profile debugger also refresh any stale data we may have in cache.
All these changes are showcased in the video below, and deployed live on https://app.retribute.me

Call for pixel/sprite style artists
I’m working on a presentation and want to have a retro gaming feel. I want to commission an artist for about 2 dozen images (objects and characters without backgrounds in medieval/fantasy style).
Hoping for turnaround within 3 weeks.
Let me know what your rates are and share examples, please and thank you!
Boosts are appreciated.
Now announcing The Cleome, a deaf creator-oriented server on Discord! This is specifically for deaf artists, writers, any deaf/HoH person who creates. Minorities are especially welcome! Please boost if you know any deaf creators! https://discord.gg/8kMpNR2
Happy to announce that my RSS-to-ActivityPub converter now detects MP3s from podcast feeds and makes them into attachments that render directly in Mastodon 2.9.2+
This ended up a "download everything or nothing" situation, unfortunately, but here are the goods! https://archive.org/details/50000ultimatewebgraphics
Did I already share this?
Open Music | openmusic.gallery
(website seems to be own at the moment?)
A JSON-based format for open-source music. Something like MIDI files, but human-readable (so good for generating data tooo), easily editable online, and they contain links to the sounds (think soundfonts) they use.
Video explains it better
So yeah that's 4 random games from itch. I think I came to all of them via word of mouth from here or birdsite, I can't even remember via who at this point. I love the idea of doing writeups like this on the reg but we'll see if I have the energy for it.
Definitely please dig around on itch for things that interest you, it's the only way to save ourselves from a world where everyone only ever talks about the same five huge games that each cost 9 trillion dollars to make.
Game Making Tools is a few things, but mostly a wiki for amateur game/vidcon makerers.
1/2 admin accounts, handles most of the adminy announcement stuff :)
Hi! Game Making Social is a part of the Fediverse dedicated to being a well-moderated, cosy, friendly place to talk and share stuff about amateur videogame making, and everything surrounding that.
It's kinda an offshoot of Game Making Tools, which is a wiki(+) for a similar audience.
Game makers, game writers, game curators, etc. etc. most welcome!
I also try to maintain a list of not-jerk game-making communities on the wiki, which you might find interesting.
Please read the rules before signing-up :)
PS: We have Animal Crossing, LSD, and Klik & Play emoji :3
