now to take a big sip of coffee as I ponder the timeless beauty of the Unix way, with its elegant lingua franca, shell scripts
@SpindleyQ honestly my main philosophy on doing computer stuff is that those are the two things you aren't allowed to ignore or complain about because they're both so expressive and useful
@axfelix I've only recently really dug into bash as a language, and there are some incredibly good ideas in there!
but yeah, I don't think there is a widely popular full-featured software platform that doesn't have some truly awful design decisions baked in, so you just kinda gotta Deal
@SpindleyQ As a non-programmer I have no idea if you are being sarcastic or not.
Shell scripts are SUPER useful when doing science, butttt I've also seen people write whole programs in kcsh, which seems....not the best way to do things?
@danburzo blursed imo
@SpindleyQ doing all my fancy web things with 50 different server-side bash scripts, the way James Unix intended.
@SpindleyQ put bash in the browser!
@SpindleyQ compromise: perl scripts
@a_breakin_glass countercompromise: first-class browser support for DOM processing using awk
Hi! Game Making Social is a part of the Fediverse dedicated to being a well-moderated, cosy, friendly place to talk and share stuff about amateur videogame making, and everything surrounding that.
It's kinda an offshoot of Game Making Tools, which is a wiki(+) for a similar audience.
Game makers, game writers, game curators, etc. etc. most welcome!
I also try to maintain a list of not-jerk game-making communities on the wiki, which you might find interesting.
Please read the rules before signing-up :)
PS: We have Animal Crossing, LSD, and Klik & Play emoji :3
